This presentation will provide an overview of "Standards-based Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)" for students with disabilities. Why this shift is important to ensuring access to the general curriculum, the fundamental components of standards-based IEPs, and challenges to implementation will be discussed.

Presented by Candace Cortiella, Director, The Advocacy Institute and Rachel Quenemoen, Senior Research Fellow, National Center on Educational Outcomes.

Common Core State Standards (CCSS): Implications for Students with Disabilities

The recent release of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) creates a new set of issues for students with disabilities. To date, over 30 states have adopted the CCSS. This widespread adoption and forthcoming implementation requires thinking about the CCSS application for students with disabilities. How the new CCSS relate to students with disabilities and the potential opportunities and challenges they present in both instruction and assessment will be discussed. Presented by Dr. Jan Sheinker, Sheinker Educational Services, Inc. and Dr. Martha Thurlow, Director, National Center on Educational Outcomes.
