Open Sky's research director, Dr. Joanna Bettmann will be on LA Talk Radio with Dore Frances on Monday, Oct. 4th at 12 noon PST. Dr. Bettmann will discuss Open Sky's outcome studies and the research results of leading researchers on the effectiveness of wilderness therapy.

She recieved her PhD from Smith College of Social Work and is a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW).
Dr. Bettmann is an Assistant Professor at the University of Utah College of Social Work where she teaches clinical practice and psychological theory courses to master’s level students and continues to research wilderness therapy outcomes as well as attachment issues in a variety of populations.’s recent publications include articles in peer-reviewed journals, including Clinical Social Work Journal and Journal of Therapeutic Schools and Programs.
She has presented her research at numerous national and state conferences: the National Association of Therapeutic Schools and Programs, the American Psychoanalytic Association, the New Haven Psychoanalytic Research Training Program at Yale University, and the Utah Counseling Centers Conference. Adolescents complete four questionnaires, the Youth Outcome Questionnaire 2.0, the University of Rhode Island Change Assessment, the Adolescent Relapse Coping Questionnaire, the Adolescent Attachment Questionnaire, and their parents complete the Youth Outcome Questionnaire 2.0 and the Adult Attachment Scale.
Young adults complete four questionnaires: Outcome Questionnaire 45.2, the University of Rhode Island Change Assessment, the Addictive Disorders Screen and the Psychological Separation Inventory.
