Silverado Academy ~Girls Campus to Hold First Parent Weekend
Silverado Academy will host its first Parent Weekend for girls and their families on February 25th through February 27th. We will maintain tradition by holding our beginning meetings off-site at Ruby’s Inn Resort, located, quite literally, in Bryce Canyon City. Following group therapy and our new parent orientation, Silverado will host a dinner for all family members and staff. This is a wonderful opportunity for staff and families to connect. Over the next two days, parents will engage in individual, group, and multi-family group therapy. Dr. Kreg Gilman, Executive Director, and Eric Fawson, Clinical Director, will hold a variety of workshops for parents and families focusing on various topics such as parenting styles, building trust, and parent-child communication. The new girls’ program officially opened its doors on November 23, 2009.The Silverado Girls Academy offers the same high quality of therapeutic services that our parents and referral sources have experienced at our boys campus.
Eric Fawson continues in his role as the Clinical Director; in addition, he has taken on the role of therapist for our first group of new girls. Currently, Eric facilitates individual therapy, family phone therapy, along with three to four clinical groups a week with the girls. In the academic area, and while we are still growing, we have chosen to utilize the services of Park City Independent, an on-line instructional curriculum which is fully accredited by the Northwest Association of Accredited Schools. The curriculum is aligned to both national and state standards and allows students an abundance of course offerings. Thus far, students have exhibited an increase in motivation and personal “empowerment”, as the curriculum allows each student to proceed at their own pace and experience immediate feedback on their work.
Our academic instructor, Quinn Campbell, reports minimal distraction in the classroom and plenty of opportunities for one-to-one assistance with each student.
Our beautiful girls’ facility has the capacity for twelve students; we currently have four openings. The campus is second to none in its secluded and serene location and its comfortable living quarters and general healing environment. The girls are not only growing, but are thriving in their new surroundings; if you have not yet been able to tour Silverado, we would love to hear from you and would welcome the opportunity to introduce you to our newest endeavor.
Take care,
Denise
