Justin Robinson, LCSW and Michael Escalante are co-founders of the Within A Seed Foundation, a new non-profit organization created to provide adolescents with opportunities for growth and learning through participation in international humanitarian service expeditions. This year they will be leading a trip to Peru and working on community-driven projects such as building greenhouses in remote villages to add diversity to their diet and increase food supply.

Justin Robinson is the Director of Clinical and Program Services for Within A Seed and owner of New Perspectives Therapy a private practice specializing in adolescent and family services. Justin was formerly clinical director of Aspiro a Wilderness Adventure therapy program and prior to that he was a therapist and administrator of a therapeutic boarding school.

He is currently enrolled at the University of Utah where he is working on his doctorate degree in Social Work. He returned to school in order to study and specialize in the therapeutic potential of service. Justin's master's degree is in social work and his bachelor's degree is in recreational therapy.

Having worked with hundreds of youth in therapeutic settings, Michael Escalante began to question some of the fundamentals of therapy. While Michael felt that most therapeutic organizations lent invaluable help to their clients, he recognized a poignant discrepancy: Many therapeutic organizations require their clients to focus on themselves and their issues with the expectation that the clients will develop a community focus rather than a selfish focus. Michael noticed that the most critical periods of breakthrough occurred primarily when clients felt deep care for others marked by a willingness to serve selflessly. Michael's ideas led him to found Within a Seed Foundation, an organization that facilitates international service expeditions for youth. "Youth today more than ever need to engage in a meaningful cause," reports Escalante "... Something powerful happens while working side by side with someone from humble circumstances." Michael believes that meaningful service magnifies the desire to make healthy community-minded choices.

"Our lives are more significant and robust than we often recognize...sometimes we need to get out side of ourselves and our everyday circumstances," adds Michael Escalante.
